Year 3/4

Welcome to George Stephenson Class!

This year, our class has been named after the well-known British civil and mechanical engineer, George Stephenson. We are looking forward to learning more about him as a class, in particular looking at his work with the railways which lead to him being known as the ‘Father of the railways.’

We are very excited to welcome the children back to school this term and to continue our learning journey together as part of the Year 3/4 team. This term the children will be learning about the following:

  • Maths: Place value and number
  • PYP: Changes in Britain from the Stone Age to the Iron Age. As part of this we will be reading and writing a range of genres, creating some tribal art and sculptures and exploring changes in medicine.
  • Science: Rocks
  • PE: Athletics
  • Computing: Logging on using their individual account details,  E-Safety, using a digital microscope and Google Docs.

What can you do at home to help?

  • Homework: Children will be given a homework menu with a selection of challenges to have a go at. It would be wonderful if you can support the children with this and share their work once complete.
  • Reading: We would encourage the children to read for at least 20 minutes a day. This can be a mixture of their school reading book, texts on myON and books/comics that they already have at home. Once your child has read please record this in their reading log so that we can celebrate this with them.
  • Times tables: Times tables are a fantastic way to support the children with maths. Please encourage your child to practise these regularly on Times Tables Rock Stars or with someone at home.
  • PE will be taught on a Friday. Please make sure your child comes into school in their PE kit.

Who We Are

Below is a list of homework options for this half term around the topic of ‘Who we are.’ Please talk to your child to decide which activity you would like to do together each week. Homework can be completed on paper or on the computer. The children’s work or pictures of their work can then be uploaded to our ‘George Stephenson’ Google classroom. Children should try to complete at least 5 tasks over the course of this term. The deadline for the children to complete and share their work is Thursday 15th October 2020.
